DREAM HORSE MOVIE REVIEW
Leigh: Let's talk about the performances. The big thing is the accents. I'm no expert, but the Welsh accent felt very natural in terms of Toni Collette’s performance. I just love watching Toni Collette work. I could do it all day.
Tim: She again steals the show. Is there anything she can't do?
Leigh: I don't want to know about it if there is… Now, in terms of cinematography, I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of racing. I have been guilty of dabbling in punting on the Melbourne Cup in the past, as most people have, but since learning about what racing does to horses and understanding more about it, I'm quite uncomfortable watching horses race, so I found those scenes really hard. I found it hard to connect with this idea they were peddling that the horse ‘wants’ to race and was ‘born’ to race. It's that real racing mentality that I found difficult to connect with, personally. But the racing scenes are shot very well.
Tim: Yeah, they’re really exhilarating. Really, really exhilarating.
Leigh: I was on the edge of my seat.
Tim: You're really invested in the race. But yes, it was uncomfortable because things do happen to horses that are running the race and that's a little confronting in watching Dream Horse. What's the expression – straight from the horse's mouth? I don't really think that Dream… Did they really want to race? And were they telling them these things? I feel like the townspeople in the syndicate were assuming what Dream wanted. But I mean, there would be no story…
Leigh: They did care about the horse, though. They really cared about the horse.
Tim: They deeply, deeply cared about the horse. Absolutely. You certainly felt that.
