Gabriel LaBelle interview (Saturday Night)

Gabriel LaBelle returns to Popcorn Podcast to talk about his new film Saturday Night, in which he portrays legendary SNL co-creator and producer Lorne Michaels. LaBelle shares insights into the high-energy, chaotic atmosphere of Jason Reitman’s film and the unique challenges of taking on such an influential figure in entertainment history – something the star is becoming accustomed to following his turn as a young Steven Spielberg in The Fabelmans.

LaBelle also discusses the intense preparation required for his role, the thrill of seeing his performance paired with a live-improvised score, as well as sharing his thoughts on potential Saturday Night spin-offs and the joy of Wayne’s World.

Directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, Saturday Night takes viewers back to October 11, 1975, capturing the tense hours leading up to the first-ever SNL broadcast with a group of eccentric writers and performers determined to bring modern comedy to the world stage in a way that hadn’t been done before. With an ensemble cast including Rachel Sennott, Cory Michael Smith, and Finn Wolfhard, among others, the film is a whirlwind of comedy, anxiety, and creativity, encapsulated by Jon Batiste's dynamic music.
